Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica)

Vasaka also known as ‘Malabar Nut’ in English, ‘Adhathodai’ in Tamil, ‘Vasa’ in Telugu and ‘Arusha’ in Hindi, is a potent ayurvedic plant that enhances the respiratory system. Studies have shown this herb to have the following actions:-

Bronchodilator and anti-histaminic: Adhatoda vasica stimulates β-adrenergic receptors, blocks histamine H1 receptors and anticholinergic activity to relax airway smooth muscle cells, making breathing easier.

Mucolytic: Bromhexine derivative of Adhatoda vasica (Vasaka) increases bronchial secretion. It depolymerises mucopolysaccharides in bronchial secretions by liberating lysosomal enzyme and breakdown the fibers of sputum.
