| According to Ayurveda, a truly healthy individual is a person in whom 'TRIDOSHAS' are in a state of equilibrium, with balanced digestion and metabolism (Agni) and normal functioning of Dhatus and Malas |
| |
|
| |
Similarly proper functioning of senses and happy state of being are also important elements of health. |
| |
|
| |
Ayurveda believes the principle that every cell in the human body is the result of the diet. Being a hoslistic medical science, Ayurveda emphasises on correct diet suiting individual constitution, age, sex, strength, time etc.. |

|
| PATHOGENESIS OF DISEASE |
| |
According to Ayurveda, any disease starts from a disturbance of the balance between the TRIDOSHAS caused due to disharmonious diet, behavior and life-style. Thus Ayurveda lays emphasis on correct diet and proper habits. |
| |
|
| |
Imbalanced and vitiated Doshas, individually or in combination, are capable of producing vitiation in the Datus and give rise to diseases. |
| |
|
| |
In most of the cases, imbalance and vitiation of these Doshas hampers the power of Agni, the digestive fire, which leads to improper digestion of food and formation of Ama i.e. undigested food. |
| |
|
| |
This in turn is responsible for poor nutrition to Dhatus, thus weakening of Dhatus. |
| |
|
| |
Also, it hinders elimination of toxins through Mala, which causes build up of toxins in the body. These toxins are considered to be the main cause of various diseases. |
| |
|
| |
Ama along with vitiated Doshas, blocks the channels (Srotasas) and gets accumulated in the weakened site in the body, usually pertaining to specific Doshas. |
| |
|
| This ultimately manifests the disease. |
| |
|
 |
Ayurvedic medicine is therefore basically preventive, protective, curative, nutritive, all. |
| |
|
 |
Besides it is safe, efficacious, economical and free from adverse side effects. |
| |
|
| The aim of Ayurveda is attainment and maintenance of TOTAL HEALTH; treat the disease without any short term or long term ill effects on any of the system of the body. |
